Where to Stay When in Sacramento on Business

Dropping in for a few days on a business trip? You’ve got a wide range of choices in Sacramento, so you can easily be within blocks of your work destination.

If proximity to the airport is your number one priority, then stay in the Homewood Suites. Closest to the airport at just 3 miles away, this hotel has large, clean rooms and you’ll get a quiet stay. And it’s located along Highway 5, putting you along the main thoroughfare between the airport and downtown.

In town to visit the McClellan Air Force Base? The Lion’s Gate Hotel is probably your best bet. They are located on the east side of the base, and offer 24-hour airport shuttle service as well as a nice meal selection in their high-quality restaurant – and the bar here even used to be the Officer’s Club for the base.

Or, if you’re looking to stay close to the capitol building, you have lots of choices. The Hyatt Regency, right across the street from Capitol Park, is probably the nicest. It recently went under renovations, and the penthouse has served as Governor Schwarzenegger’s weekday home. This hotel has all the business amenities you’d expect from a 4-star hotel and excellent service. Or you could opt to stay a few blocks away at the towering Sheraton Grand, a standard Sheraton with quick and courteous service and a few extra amenities. At the Sheraton you’d also be within a block or two of the Convention Center.

As an alternative, if you need to stay near the capitol and/or the Convention Center but want something a little bit more homey, the Amber House Bed and Breakfast is still within blocks but is much more cozy than the chain hotels. And it’s actually designed for the business traveler, set up with meeting rooms, wireless internet, etc. And yet you get to stay in a historic home with antiques and excellent home-cooked meals.

Need to stay near Cal Expo or Arden Fair in the northwestern area of the city? The Doubletree hotel will serve you well. Built on a huge yet well-maintained property, the Doubletree caters to endless business travelers coming in and out year-round. Parking is easy, rooms are large, and easy-access WiFi are all benefits of staying here. It’s a bit of a haul from downtown and the airport, but there are shuttles, cars for hire, and public transportation to help you get to and from your destination.
